@ BrooklynGreene I did a quick search and found this:

This is a link to the Brooklyn Public Library’s historic photo collection, showing the pylon that used to mark the Brooklyn entrance to the Manhattan Bridge
@ BrooklynGreene. From what I understand, there used to be such an arch or some kind of gateway. The seated statues that are on the corners of the Brooklyn Museum facade are remnants of that entryway that was demolished at some point to make way for the BQE interchange.
I always assumed this little block of houses was from before the building of the bridge which just turned 100. This would mean the rise/hill the bridge roadway starts from is an original topographical feature.
Does anyone know any history about the houses that are being ripped down in the name of “progress”?
Wouldn’t it be nice if the bridge had the same sort of beaux art triomphal arch on the Brooklyn side, not just the Manhattan side?
From Wikipedia: “Green shoots is a term used colloquially to indicate signs of economic recovery during an economic downturn.”
“greenshoot?” Would someone please broaden my vocabulary?
Is this separate from the lot on the corner that’s been lying dormant for about a year now?
Also, where is this Best Western going to put parking? I’m assuming they’ll have it.
A Best Western is an appropriate category hotel for this location. I’m sure the organization has researched the market; they should have success here.
