crowdThe Brooklyn Downtown Star serves up the only detailed account we’ve seen in the local press of last week’s BSA meeting over the future of six development projects in the South Slope and Greenwood Heights. The drama is palpable:

A standing room only crowd of outraged citizens was again present, again flanked by a phalanx of politicians and community groups, but this time they had brought a few paid experts of their own. Caroline Harris, an attorney from the Troutman Sanders firm – which has its offices in the Chrysler building – had been retained by two of those outraged citizens, and she publicly taught Hornstein and his colleagues a thing or two about big-city lawyering.
“It would be a shame,” she deadpanned confidently, after having presented architectural and photographic information more thorough than any of the props Hornstein et al had on hand, “for the developer to spend all that money and build this, and then have to take it all down. So let’s stop construction now.”

Brashear and Katan are already fighting over the movie rights.

  1. After what I saw at that hearing it is unbelieveble that the Developers were allowed to come back to continue there obvious lies, and deciet. If the shoe were on the other foot the Community would have been told to hit the road.
That being said lets all hope that at the next hearing the BSA does the right thing, once and for all.
If not, then I think it’s time we all let our mayor and all City officials know who it is that they work for.

  2. I can’t wait to hear the results. If they rule in favor of the developers it will certainly squash any dissent from others. I can’t think of a more devoted group of people willing to use their own money to fight for their neighborhood. If they can’t win none will.

  3. Lets hope the BSA commisioners weren’t just blowing hot air at the Community.
Katan, Scarano, Radusky, and Hornblower should take all there ill gotten gains and “git while the gittin’ is good.”
But they are too greedy. They have convinced themselves that they are above the law.
In fact Hornblowers whole case is based on the fact that they have gotten away with murder up until now and as such should be allowed to procceed as usual.
No matter what It’s time for the clowns to get out of town.

  4. Where are these people getting the money for the fancy city lawyers?

and is the price tag worth it? I’m glad they changed the zoning but i don’t know how hard I’d fight to keep these from being grandfathered. Its not like there aren’t already high-rises interspersed in the s. slope – gw. heights area.

  5. Not looking good for the developers, and their lawyers really suck the big one. Unprepared, Bawhawhahahahha! Overpaid chumps. Boo hoo, hardship, wah, wah, wah, blame the zoning changes that happended too fast.

    Better luck next time fools.
