After trying to sneak one past the Dumbo community and the DOB back in November, Joshua Guttman got his project at 187 Plymouth Street back on track again shortly before Christmas. After an (insincere) act of contrition in his December 14 application to the DOB (“Respectfully Requesting a PAA to Submit Revised Plans with Proper Propsed [sic] Building Height”) the unpopular developer had the Stop Work Order lifted on the 18th and has been back at work since. It’s not entirely clear to us, though, what, if anything, he’s done to address the charges that he had overbuilt the building. (It was supposed to only be 13 feet tall and he had gone up to at least 20 feet.) As far as we can see, all he’s done up top is to lay some tar strips. Any neighbors with a view from above care to elaborate?

That is the highest expression of what is usually called a “corrupt system” where injustice triumphs. After all, we do not live in a fairytale nor there will be a superhero jumping out to bring back justice and restore the fairness and balance 😉
It seems a proven fact that (especially in NYC), if YOU are an unscrupulous developer with absolutely zero principles and YOU’ve got money and connections, then YOU will “de facto” have the luxury to “don’t give a flying fu¢k” about any law. Sure, people will yell, kick, and scream, but because the justice system is what it is, YOU will be perfectly fine and can sleep tight, as you can rest assured that those people will never decide to face expensive lawsuits knowing that YOU are the one with the dough… hence YOU are the one who can “buy”, while those people could never afford to “buy” hint, hint
Therefore since nobody will ever sue YOU, that means YOU have the right to “give a rat’s A$$” about anyone complaining about you. Those people count $hit for the $ystem so YOU can keep doing what YOU want!
Besides, if someone ever does sue you the outcomes could be only in your favor! Why? Well if you “reward” those who will “help” you get a “successful outcome” YOU WILL WIN any lawsuit. The worst case scenario could be that those suing you have a chance to get something… at that point all YOU have to do is just fu¢k’em by using the sloth-speed bureaucratic and legal systems. YOU can be pretty confident that UFOs will fly before they see a dime!
That’s life! And more so, that’s today’s life in this beautiful US of A!
Rights, Law, Justice, Equality and the illustrious past closely related to such ideals and achievements, in the name of which people often fought and die for, are now nothing more than historical tales only useful to produce Hollywood movies.
If a President can gloss over the constitution and brush off congress when single-handedly deciding to enter an international conflict, why should anyone give a crap about a crooked, shady, sleaze-ball and relatively small-time developer who is just using the system in order to fu¢k people over and turn a profit for himself?
