Fits and Starts at 163 Washington Avenue

We looked at this project from a different angle back in April. At the time we didn’t realize the 20,000-square-foot lot went all the way through the block between Washington and Hall. The plan shown above is what the property was marketed with but we have no idea if that’s actually what’s getting built. The view below is from Washington Avenue, and as you can see, demo is underway in full force. We heard from a neighbor that a Stop Work Order was issued a couple of months ago when it was brought to DOB’s attention that the contractor’s approach to demolition was to just break some beams and let the building fall in on itself. So after a few weeks in the penalty box, work has resumed much to the neighbors’ chagrin.
