The 12-story tower on 1st Street just off Fourth Avenue is visible from all the way down at Flatbush. How far along is the 32-unit residential project? Not far enough to tell how it’s going to look but far enough to have been slapped with a partial stop work order. The property was hit for not having a permit for an installed standpipe (whatever that is) and for not having certain drawings on hand. The creative force behind the project is Steven Kratchman. Is anyone familiar with his work? GMAP P*Shark DOB
anon 3:18, you’re correct. those standpipes are referred to as dry standpipes, and i believe wet standpipes are supplied by a water tank on the roof…correct me if im wrong
Yes, Greta, your view is soooooooo much more important than providing housing for the city’s booming population.
And regardless of how this building ultimately turns out, I’m sure that posters on this boad will dislike it.
Actually the duplex that is in contract and last I heard there were 4 in contract is actually in the building next door, not in this behemoth. The house or rather mansion that is being built is next door to that development.
what’s up with the site in the foreground of the picture @ carroll and 4th? no work has been done in months and the blue fence takes over the whole sidewalk. -j$
The building next door is a residential compound owned by a wealthy family (I think the Hertz Family of Rental Car Fame). I have no idea why construction is going slowly.
Does anyone know which realtor is marketing these condos?
i am also wondering about the construction site next door, also on first street. Nothing happening there either for a long time — what’s up?
I heard that one of the duplex units in the building was pre sold for $900 a foot.
a stand pipe is a pipe (sometimes polished shiny brass) that you see sticking out of the lower portion of a building’s facade. Sometimes they are double, and are called siamese. Firemen hook up a hose from a hydrant to that pipe and it supplies water to stairway hoses that are folded up agaisnt the wall, you’ve seen them. Firemen then use these interior hoses. They also attach to sprinklers in case the house tank (roof tank) runs dry they insure an unlimited supply of water to the interior hoses and sprinklers.
There you have it.
