Development Watch: 447 Atlantic Avenue
Last we heard, future occupant of 447 Atlantic Avenue HIP Health Insurance wasn’t getting off to a good start in the neighborhood with its head-pounding pile driving. That was in January. Three months later, the foundation for the five-story, 37,500-square-foot office building that will replace the recently closed 153 Pierrepont location is being laid. Though no rendering is available, it is of some comfort that the TPG Architecture and not some fly-by-night firm is designing this project. TPG also did the interiors at HIP’s Bay Ridge location. FYI, that’s Legal Aid’s Harlem Neighborhood Office, not it’s HQ. Legal Aid Society’s HQ is on Water Street at the South Street Seaport.
I think some objections that Atlantic street level not retail but just offices.
Isn’t this the project where the architect or developer refused to put the entrance on Atlantic?
I remember there being a small hoopla because many people didn’t want a blank wall on Atlantic (I think HIP wanted the entrance on Nevins).
