Development Watch: 251 Flatbush Extension

As if downtown Brooklyn weren’t getting enough Flatiron-shaped buildings with the Oro and the Forte, we noticed another triangular development site on Flatbush Avenue Extension last weekend. There’s already a blue fence and a slew of work permits up. The property is owned by someone named Joseph Ferrrara, but there are no specifics (we could find) on the DOB website. We’d guess that this has already been written about somewhere but we can’t figure out what the project is. A little help please? GMAP
Btw, Mr B, this is an old old photo! The triangle didn’t happen after christmas. Where have ya been?
In 5 yrs everyone will be strolling down this new cosmopolitan strip and the jealous naysayers will be trolling. Compared with the old Flatbush Xtension, negative ratio about DB high rises is nil.
What do you all think about this place? Pretty sweet & reasonably priced. I’m thinking of making an offer at ASK.

It would be nice to see something happen on Flatbush that would tie the Fulton Mall, Tillary street and Metro Tech together. Flatbush may be too wide for a cozy downtown feel, but it would be a good place for larger brand name anchor type stores that would spark some life on the side streets.
Building on Flatbush Ave. Ext. & Tillary is NOT SOM. Building design (based on published renderings) is no where near a Flatiron-style building – – more of a triangular spaceship landed in the wrong place. Height exceeds anything in the neighborhood bounded by Tillary and Nassau Streets and Flatbus and Gold Streets. As for median greenstreets and landscaping, local community association has submitted numerous proposals, requests, etc. to numerous agencies to no avail.
Not sweet, but bust. Where are these people coming from? And who wants to live on that part of Flatbush. It is really not very appealing.
High rises in DOWNTOWN Brooklyn — yes, yes, yes. High rises on Carlton and Dean — NO.
True, it’s wide, but Flatbush ave itself is going to be worked on, with planted medians and junk. It won’t be Park Ave, but it will still be more green and more intimate. There should be retail as well.
In other words, it’s just more cohesive, the way a downtown should be.
In five years this stretch may be full of highrise residential development, but it will not be a pleasure to walk on. Flatbush Extension is a wide (8 lanes?) speedway to and from the Manhattan Bridge. There is little hope of development on much of the west side as MetroTech walls that off. Developed – yes; a pleasure – i dont think so.
