Developer Shows How He'll Save the Minerva Wave

Yesterday the developers of a building on 23rd Street and 7th Avenue that threatened to block the unobstructed sight line between Green-Wood Cemetery’s Minerva statue and Lady Liberty had a demonstration to show that their project will preserve the view. The architect representing Green-Wood was there to ensure the measurements met up to the proposed new building height, along with the President and Vice Presidents of Green-Wood. And what a fascinating spectacle those proceedings were: They involved a construction worker hoisted 40 feet in the air via cherry picker, thus proving to folks standing by Minerva that the line of site to the Statue of Liberty would be retained. The coast was clear.
Pyrrhic Victory for Green-wood’s Minerva [Brownstoner]
I’m trying to find a drawing of the proposed buildings at 23rd and 6th ave. Can anyone point me to a picture? I can’t find a website or business listing for Park Builders Group…
Thanks
I live on the block this post refers to. Three times I’ve had to call 311 to report the lame plywood fence being partially blown down during a storm. The pit inside the space is trash laden and there’s a lovely pond, can’t wait for the mosquitoes come summer. I do hope whatever is built is somewhat tasteful considering some of the atrocities built nearby. And yes, I think the sightline is important. I take walks in the cemetary frequently and there’s a little bench next to Minerva that’s great to hang out on and look out at the harbor(and yes Miss Liberty).
Which garbage pit ? I’m trying to reference whee you mean.
“had the statue of liberty put in place they wanted it to face Greenwood and the surrounding area as a tribute to our fortitude against The Battle of Brooklyn”
Very good point of reference. A bit of that has been forgotten in all the posts and articles over the years.
And the overkill comment, well, it has been 4 years of BS for the residents of the area (I’m told) and Green-Wood.
Hopefully this is the final nail in the coffin (pun intended) of this saga and the buildings will finally get built. Has anyone seen that garbage pit lately?
Gamma Rays! Maybe so!! What great way to defend our Harbor!!! My tentacle hurts!
Just in case anyone asks you on the street When the French artist- designers had the statue of liberty put in place they wanted it to face Greenwood and the surronding area as a tribute to our fortitude aganst The Battle of Brooklyn, it’s a good idea to preserve somethings in this town representing our past, rather than tearing them down or blocking them. It’s hard to do , but worth the fight!

P.S. It’s becomming over kill with these buildings.

The movies are better than real life, because in the movies they would have discovered that the poor bastard in the cherry picker interrupted an invisible gamma flux death ray installed surreptitiously in both statues by visiting aliens. POOF! Bwah-hah-hah…
