David Yassky: "A Supporter of Our Industry"

Speaking of politicians and developers…Everyone knows you need the backing of real estate developers to make it in New York City politics, but apparently architects can be helpful as well. We received a tip last night that ubiquitous Brooklyn architect Robert Scarano will be hosting a fundraiser tonight for every historic building’s worst enemy David Yassky. Bob Scarano will be hosting a rooftop reception, the invite reads, for the “Council’s most accomplished, progressive legislator… We need to help him now since he is a supporter of our industry.” If visitors are lucky, maybe they’ll get a chance to rub elbows with such shining lights of the Brooklyn community as Moishe Kestenbaum (184 Kent) and Joshua Guttman (Greenpoint Terminal Market)! In all seriousness, it’s pretty amazing that Yassky would be implicitly giving Scarano a pass on mezzanine gate and the ensuing loss of self-certification privileges, regardless of the lack of a formal admission of guilt.

UPDATE: The Observer is now reporting that the event has been cancelled because “the campaign didn’t think it was appropriate.”
