Last week Community Board 6’s members approved a policy for new construction aimed at getting developers and contractors to make a commitment “to follow responsible development standards,” according to a Courier Life article. The policy will be applied to projects that come before the board for review, and, among other things, will ask builders to detail their track records and outline how their site will be kept safe. Although participation is voluntary, the community board probably won’t look kindly upon developers that don’t follow the new process. (That said, the community board’s verdicts on projects are ultimately only advisory.) According to the article, a board member first proposed adopting development standards five long, development-happy years ago.
