The Brooklyn Public Library is having trouble raising the dough it needs to embark upon its ambitious Enrique Norten-designed Visual and Performing Arts Library. According to Brooklyn Papers, the library come up with only $18 million of the projected $85 million needed to see the project through. As a result, don’t expect to see any of the shimmering glass walls anytime soon. More like four or five years, warns Executive Director Ginnie Cooper. The need for cash has also led to a repositioning of the ground floor space towards more commercial purposes.

How many people would cancel their BAM memberships if FCR was listed as a major contributor? Probably no more than three. People join BAM for its culture, not its politics. Welcome to the real world.
They should “sell” a pane of glass for donations. Like, you donate $500, and they etch your name (or whatever) onto one section of a pane of glass. It might even look cool to have names neatly printed along the ground section, or something. Like that Tony Shaloub horror movie — 13 Ghosts!
Just a question — does FCR contribute to any arts/culture orgs? And would they accept it if offered? Talk about a sell out — any such “gifts” would probably come with huge strings attached — just like the purchaes of people’s apartments in Prospect Heights.
How many people would cancel their BAM memberships if FRC was listed as a major contributor? Then again, it could be a profitable trad off for BAM.
I think it would be a good PR move for Ratner to help fund this – and a plus for the community.
Thats a big hunk of change. Will be years if ever before it happens now. Maybe Ratner would be interested to throw in $50m or so?
