It’s all relative. We were a little surprised to see this new construction at 558 Lafayette Avenue between Bedford and Nostrand. While it’s not our particular cup of tea, anything that shows a little more thought and creativity than the typical Fedders spawn that is populating the area gets some points from us. While we promised not to complain about the design of this place, we will say that we think it would be better suited to a corner location–it seems a bit out of place mid-block in this low-density brownstone neighborhood, the rental building next door notwithstanding. Not bad at all. Proves that not all new construction has to be willfully ugly.

Wonderful to see a new building that actually has style, and isn’t doing it with cheesy retro touches.
The ground breaking on the corner of Monroe and Bedford is for the Bedford Avenue YMCA which is expanding to provide better service to the community
I agree…looks pretty nice. I like the contrast between the brick and the steel used around the center window column. Plus those beautiful trees out front.
