This new build at 92 Conselyea Street is ready for action. We don’t know a thing about it — architect? developer? marketer? — but sure are curious to find out. (Come to think of it, it looks rather Scarano-esque.) If it were our $500 a foot about to be spent, we’d opt of for the old-school exterior of the Jackson Foundry down the block. This place appears to have generous ceilings and windows, though, which is a huge step in the right direction. Anyone got the 411?

  1. To describe this building as being next to the BQE is rather harsh – it’s several blocks away and is a fairly short building in a residential area. I would doubt very much that residents would encounter noise, fumes, etc. unlike in areas like Dumbo, for example.

Out of the different Scarano/Apts and lofts/Developers Group buildings I saw in far Williamsburg I actually liked the Casa the best, it’s fairly convenient to transportation and restaurants but far enough away from the madding crowds of Bedford. South of Metropolitan or east of Graham, you’ll be walking a bit further for the train and the neighborhood is also much less nice.

Of course, by the time I got to the building only two ground floor apartments were left. But while I am one of the biggest scoffers for Williamsburg property inflation (particularly the pumped-up prices around McCarren park!), I actually think the buyers at the Casa will make out OK, prices were also much lower when this building went into contract two years ago.

  2. It is a nice building – nicely scaled and good use of materials to break down the massing into something interesting. Though I’m really digging the base – looks like a high concrete wall that would be imposing walking by. Also the way that base bleeds into the second story.

As of others have noted, Scarano does some very nice designs – that’s not where people have had real issue with his work (though nice is subjective, and I’m sure some would take issue there too).
