We checked up on the development at 235-239 Cumberland Street in Fort Greene last week. There’s very little information in the DOB filings, but when we discussed the project last year, it came out in the comments that this is a 4-unit building is being developed by the owners of the adjacent frame house. While it’s hard to say until the Tyvek gets covered, but it looks like a great deal of care was taken to make the design fit into the landmarked block. The brick quality looks good as do the windows and lintels (weird call on that long single lintel on the right-hand portion of the building, though). It’s probably safe to assume that there will be a cornice. Anyone know anything about timing, pricing or broker?

I agree – looks good thus far. And hopefully a cornice will be added. As for that long single lintel on the top right, it makes it appear as if everything above it is an addition – not a big deal, but I agree that it was an odd choice.
Having been watching these things go up from across the street for more than two years, I have to say that to my eye, it looks like the construction has been done very carefully. The building will never be as beautiful as the garden that was there, but the owners seem to have worked really hard to build it right and make it fit. Now, if only I could afford one!

i miss the japanese garden. i used to walk by and dream about living in the frame house with that oversized lot as a yard! but it would be hard to say no to selling your garden for $8 million or whatever they’ll make off these…
I walk my dog by here every day It fits in really nicely with the block. was this the place that was supposed to have a pool or something in it?
