No one had much to say about 1059 Manhattan Avenue on Wednesday, so maybe we’ve just beaten this Greenpoint thing to death over the past couple of weeks. But this is it the last post from our toot around the nabe two weekends ago. The address: 1160 Manhattan Avenue, catty-corner from the Greenpoint Manufacturing Center at Ash. From what we can tell, the owner submitted plans back in 2002 for a three-story building, presumably not residential since it’s a M-3-1 district. It looks like the permit was then updated or renewed this past summer. There are signs of activity but it still looks kinda dead. GMAP P*SharkDOB
Construction was on hold due to additional insurances request from MTA. Should be resolved this summer.
What I find more worry some about this end of Manhattan Av is the Candle factory on Ash. It smells like porpori 3 blocks away and has made me nauseous at times. Again, people continue to have misconceptions about the oil spill that is over by Vandervoot and spreads to Kingsland and Norman. This on the complete other side of Greepoint.
Forget the G – walk up to Freeman and take the B61 to the Vernon-Jackson 7 stop, or down to the Bedford L – or take the B24 down Manhattan to the G.
I think the major problem with any of these properties is likely oil spill related. This close to Newtown Creek especially.
as close as two store fronts away, there are people living on that block, so i don’t see why the location couldn’t be residential. the greenpoint ave G is a minor trek from ash, but that particular area is pretty cool.
