"OSSO Architecture replaced a crumbling brick stoop that was not original to the house with bluestone treads, open risers, and a steel railing. They cleaned up the exterior facade, installed new Pella windows, and restored the original front doors, now boldly painted Exotic Purple by Benjamin Moore." But there is no facade picture showing this.
The Insider: Architects Rebuild Sinking Park Slope Brownstone and Add a PenthouseI think Slope Music may no longer be operating at this location as of March 2026. I didn't see it there when I visited last week. Also worth noting: prior to the 271 Ninth Street headquarters and 240 Eighth Street factory, Higgins operated an earlier factory at 168 Eighth Street from 1888 until approximately 1906. The site is now occupied by a school following environmental remediation. Thanks. Tom.
A Colorful Pre Civil War Manse Takes a Musical Turn in Park SlopeIs this the block that staged their own house tour for a few years in the ‘70s, when the Park Slope Civic Council wouldn’t include them on the official PS. tour? Park Slope Townhouse With Plasterwork, Mantels, Woodwork Asks $4.3 MillionHi. Just a small correction: Chas. M. Higgins & Co. did reference the factory address in print. A 1902 advertisement and a period business card both clearly list 'Factory 240-244 Eighth Street' alongside the Main Office at 271 Ninth Street. Also, while construction may have begun in 1898, the 1899 completion date is confirmed by the date embedded in the brickwork near the top of the building, and a brass plaque in the lobby reads 'The Higgins Ink Building 1899.' The lobby itself displays a number of original Chas. M. Higgins & Co. advertisements. The building is now a residential co-op with 10 units. Worth noting also that Higgins operated an earlier factory at 168 Eighth Street from 1888 until approximately 1906: the site is now occupied by a school following environmental remediation. Thanks. Tom.
