Yesterday a reader sent in the pic at left, which shows how the facade of the future Petco on 7th Avenue near the corner of Berkeley has turned out. At right, the rendering of the build that Landmarks approved back in January ’10. The construction appears to match up pretty well with what’s now out from under wraps. Last week Here’s Park Slope ran a shot of what the interior is looking like and also mentioned that it will be an Unleashed by Petco, the company’s brand of boutique stores.

  1. Still miss the fruit and vegetable store that was here before the fire. And zuzu’s flower and plant store. Olive vine at least moved close by on 7th. Not having pets, but eating and liking flowers, I found all of those more useful than petco. And prefer little stores to big chains.

Wasn’t there talk (perhaps on here) of tall condos here (not that I thought tall was a good idea here, though something the height or surrounding buildings would have worked ok.) Likely the market turn made financing difficult.

  2. I can not imagine why they would put up a one story building in this location. A couple of floors of apartments above the retail space would rent or sell in a heartbeat at premium prices.

  3. So much of an improvement from the burned out shells of buildings which had been sitting there for years. This actually looks pretty nice. Will be great to add some more life to the street in this part of 7th Avenue. It also appears that the former Slope Sports space on 7th and Berkeley has been rented, the former Lucas Fine Foods on Union near 7th has lost its for rent sign and has been papered up and the former Area Kids space (which moved 2 doors down into what was Super Savers) has also lost its for rent sign and windows are papered.

Look forward to seeing what moves into these 3 new spots.
