We missed this news when the Wall Street Journal ran it on Monday but saw it on Gothamist yesterday and it’s too important for those of us who live along the Fulton Street corridor to ignore: The MTA signed its $599 million contract with Montreal-based Bombardier Inc. to build 300 new subway cars. The new cars, which will be delivered between 2015 and 2017, will go towards replacing the oldest ones in the system, which are on the C line as well as the J and Z lines. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch however. When The Journal originally wrote about the planned deal back in March, the paper raised the possibility that the C line might not actually get the brand-new cars; instead the C might just get some newer cars from another line that received the new ones. Let’s hope the Fulton local gets some love.
