Since 2006, when Rebar created PARK(ing) Day in San Francisco, it has grown to encompass other cities around the world to join in and convert their own metered parking spaces into a temporary public park. This will be the third year the event’s taken place in New York and there are 51 official spaces slated for takeover. One of the hot spots in Brooklyn will be at the corner of Cortelyou and Argyle Roads. If you see a “public park” spring up, feel free to play and interact! And to send us photos. Friday, September 18. This event is all day and located around all of Brooklyn.

International Coastal Cleanup Day
This is the 24th Coastal Cleanup Day and it is a worldwide effort to clean up and better the coasts of many countries. The trash found will be tallied and the information will be used to understand the impact of trash on waterways. To RSVP for the event, email rsvp@bbpc.net. Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea takes place in Ft. Greene on Saturday and its historic Brooklyn Bridge location on Sunday. Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday, September 19. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Lafayette Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt Avenues. Sunday, September 20. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. In Dumbo, underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the corner of Water and New Dock Street.

The 4th Annual SoLA Sidewalk Soiree
Join Bed-Stuy retailers and several home-based businesses this Saturday for a day filled with family fun. There will be an art auction, spelling bee, wine tasting, floral arranging, chess & scrabble tournaments, and much more. Come and enjoy the food, fashion, and music. Saturday, September 19. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. On the sidewalks of Lewis Avenue between Decatur and Hancock Streets.

The 28th Annual Great Irish Fair
The fair is a celebration of Irish heritage, with great music, food, dancing, family fun. Admission is $12 for attendees over 12 (free for anyone under) and $30 for families. All proceeds go to the Catholic Schools of the Brooklyn-Queens Diocese. Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20. In the parking lot at Keyspan Park in Coney Island.

Green-Wood Historic Fund Tour
Explore with Brooklyn native and tour guide Ruth Edebohls the less-visited side of Green-Wood. The tour visits the last resting places of Jean-Michel Basquiat, a silent western film star, the original Wizard, the founder of the ASPCA, “The Great Divine,” the inventor of the hot dog, and many more. For tickets, call 718-768-7300. $10. Sunday, September 20. 1 p.m. Meet at the Fort Hamilton Parkway entrance to Green-Wood across from Miceli Place.

Give and Get Trees!
As part of Myrtle Avenue’s fall celebration, Move About Myrtle, Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, MillionTreesNYC, and the New York Restoration Project, they are offering trees for planting on private property.   1. this “parking” thing is one of the stupidest ideas ive seen recently. not sure if its related, but some girl was setting up a tarp ON the bike lane, in front of Gorrilla coffee in park slope this morning, with chairs and boardgames (and a sign saying Bike Lane Love). cars/trucks were flying by literally within 6″ of her ‘camp’. i predict a death soon that will end this sillyness.
