Abandoned Brooklyn Exhibit at UnionDocs
Union Docs gallery is hosting an opening reception for their new art exhibit by Nathan Kensinger titled “Abandoned Brooklyn.” The exhibit displays photographs of abandoned industrial spaces in Brooklyn. As part of the opening night event, there will also be a screening of Covered Tracks, a short documentary about an abandoned homeless city underneath Manhattan.

January Brooklyn Blogade
OTBKB is hosting the January Brooklyn Blogade. The Blogade is for bloggers, blog readers, and those interested in becoming bloggers. On the agenda is the upcoming Brooklyn Blogfest, an annual gathering of Brooklyn bloggers in May.

“Gossip Girl” Author Speaks at PS 29
The first event in the 2009 PS 29 Literary Salon is “An Evening of Fiction by Cecily von Ziegesar, Dominic Preziosi, and Julia Lichtblau.” Cecily von Ziegesar (a PS 29 parent) is the author of the bestselling young adult series, Gossip Girl. She will read from her debut adult novel, Cum Laude, to be published by Hyperion in September 2009. You can purchase tickets for this event here. All ticket proceeds go to the PS 29 PTA.

Third Annual Lunar New Year Celebration and Flower Market
Brooklyn Botanic Garden is hosting its third annual Lunar New Year Celebration and Flower Market. This year is the Year of the Ox and features a lineup of Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera dancers, martial artists, and acrobats. There will also be guided tours of a collection of plants native to China, Korea, and Vietnam along with crafts for kids.
