Big Brooklyn Pig Roast and Harvest Hoedown
The Big Brooklyn Pig Roast and Harvest Hoedown is a prelude to the Gowanus Harvest Festival. Enjoy good food and local music. All proceeds go to the New Farmer Development Project. Tickets are going fast but there will be $10 tickets available to hear the bands and drink the Sixpoint ales.

Gaetane Michaux’s Bushwick Yourself!
Gaetane Michaux, a Brooklyn artist, is launching her show, Bushwick Yourself! Gaetane’s work uses custom-made puzzles as a platform to mix and collage everything from movie posters to street art to portraiture.
Opening Reception Tonight, 6-10 p.m. Show runs until October 31. Factory Fresh, 1053 Flushing Avenue.
Red Hook Film Festival 2008
The Red Hook International Film And Video Festival is in its second year with more film, video, and animations. This year’s festival showcases 29 short films from Brooklyn and around the world. Beer and wine will be available, as well as some free key lime pies from Steve’s Authentic and free popcorn.
Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12. 1-6 p.m. Free. Screenings are at Brooklyn Waterfront Artist’s Coalition, 499 Van Brunt Street.
Seining for Kids
Join experts from the Coastal Marine Resource Center as they use a 30-foot seining net to catch fish and other creatures that live in the waters under the Manhattan Bridge. Families and kids can take a good look at the catch before they are released back to their homes.

Danny Hoch’s Taking Over: the All City Tour
Hoch’s one-man show is part of the 2008 NYC Hip-Hop Theater Festival. In his play, Hoch plays nine characters linked by the upheaval of Williamsburg’s gentrification.

Jacob Ouillette’s Painted Space: An Installation
Painted Space, a new installation by Jacob Ouillette, will open at the Open Space Gallery and will remain until November 15. Also at the opening is a ten-minute play, Brooklyn Lighthouse” by Anne Phelan, directed by Ramona Pula. The play addresses art, time, and Brooklyn history and features Jennifer Boehm and Andrew Rothkin.

Get To The ‘Point 5K Run
Run around the streets of Greenpoint for a good cause. All proceeds go to St. Stan’s Athletic League. Children’s dashes start at 10:30 a.m. while the actual race starts at 1 p.m. After the race, stick around for food, games, and DJ entertainment.

Marcella and Victor Hazan Reading
Facts and Fictions at the Montauk Club present cookbook author Marcella Hazan and her husband Victor Hazan. They will read from their book, Amarcorde: Marcella Remembers, which is about how a young girl raised in Emilia-Romagna became America’s godmother of Italian cooking.

4th Annual Bed Stuy Alive!
The 4th Annual Bed Stuy Alive! Taste, Strut, Tour, Shop Rock and Run Festival pays tribute to the neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant. On Saturday, the festival features live entertainment, exhibit booths, open galleries, and food samples from local restaurants. On Sunday, the festival features Restoration Plaza’s annual 10K Run & Fun Walk.

Irondale Center House Warming
The actors, directors, and designers of the Irondale Center are opening their doors to give us a first-hand look at their new home. There will be games, a pot-luck dinner, and a sneak preview of Irondale’s Peter Pan.
