Bed Stuy Alive 2007
Beginning this Saturday, October 13, a week of festivities kick off in Bedford Stuyvesant with Bed Stuy Alive: Taste, Strut, Tour, Know. The third annual event celebrates the neighborhood’s vibrant business, cultural and artistic communities. Sample foods from over 30 restaurants or take part in the Bedford Stuyvesant Artists’ Association’s Fourth Annual Studio Strut of local artwork. For more information, 718-622-6601.

Walk Don’t Destroy 3
Walk Don’t Destroy 3 takes place this Sunday with proceeds helping to fund the DDDB legal campaign. Join your friends and neighbors on this two-mile walk to help stop eminent domain abuse and over-development. The walk starts at 12:00 p.m. at Freddys Bar. Sunday, 12:00 p.m. 485 Dean Street.

Fort Greene Association Fall Craft Show
On Saturday and Sunday, the Fort Green Association hosts a fall craft show and sale. The exhibit will include museum-quality jewelry, prints, decoupage, stained and blown glass, pottery, bags, and quilted items. Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. $2 admission. 168 Lafayette Avenue, between Adelphi and Clermont.

Harvest Festival
Saturday, the Park Slope Parents, the Old Stone House and the Park Slope Civic Council sponsor the Third Annual Harvest Festival. The family-friendly event will features pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, and clothing and costume swaps, as well as music from Randy Kaplan and Courtney Kaiser & Benjamin Cartel. Battle Hill Poetry Festival
Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. the Battle Hill Poetry Festival at Green-Wood Cemetery will feature a poetry marathon with several local poets as well as music from local bluesman Bennett Harris. Partial proceeds to benefit the Green-Wood Historic Fund. Admission: $5 to $10.

ArtMart 11225
On Saturday, check out ArtMart 11225, a community arts and crafts market in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The market will feature the work of Brooklyn artists and artisans, such as handmade jewelry and knit-wear, pottery, silk-screened t-shirts and accessories, and art from local landscape photographers, lithographers, and painters. Children’s arts and crafts activities will take place throughout the day at the Maple Street School located on Lincoln Road. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lincoln Road, between Ocean and Flatbush Avenue.

Teens for Darfur
Saturday, the Old Stone House hosts a benefit concert with music from Cool and Unusual, Dulaney Banks, Post No Bills, Banzai, and The Floor is Lava. Funds will go to the American Jewish World Service Refugee Relief Effort in Darfur. Saturday, 6:00 p.m. $10 adults; $5 kids and teens. The Old Stone House at Fifth Avenue and Third Street in Park Slope.

BARC Dog Parade and Show
Sunday, the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition presents its 21st Annual Dog Parade and Show. With a “Super Pup & His Friends” theme, the parade kicks off at 12:00 p.m. from BARC Shelter. Pre-registration is not required. Costumes are encouraged for both dogs and people. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best superhero costumes. Hancock Street Stoop Sale
Saturday, the 500 Hancock Street Block Association will be having a block-wide stoop sale on Hancock Street between Stuyvesant and Lewis Avenues. The sale is a fundraiser for the block association. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 500 block of Hancock Street, between Stuyvesant and Lewis.

Gitana Rosa Closing Party
Tonight, the Gitana Rosa Gallery hosts a closing party featuring artists, paintings, and drinks. Friday, 7:00 p.m. 19 Hope Street.

  1. Sorry to say the Fort Greene Association Crafts Fair was not up to snuff. I just couldn’t force myself to buy anything for myself…I also got nixed trying to buy something as a gift for “the mother-in-law”. The husband unit went outside to get out of the house the “fair” was held in…called me on my cell to say he’d strolled out to wait on Lafayette. I felt bad for one of vendors and wanted to buy something but I was told “no” by the H.U. So, basically, please, next time you put something like this together, FGA, please make it worthwhile.
