Ronald K. Brown: Choreographed Performance
651 ARTS’ presentation celebrating 25 years of the work of Brooklyn-based choreographer Ronald K. Brown this Friday. We are remounting the full productions of two of his celebrated worksDestiny performed by Evidence and Children of the Passage performed by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company complete with live music by the original composers the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and West African percussionist Mamadouba Mohamed Camara. Great seats are still available. $100 ticket buyers are invited to a champagne reception with the artists after the performance. Raising Cane: A Family Portrait
In the tradition of early John Waters and Troma Films, Raising Cane: A Family Portrait follows the familial disfunctions of simpleton in-breeds who love nothing more than beating each others brain’s out. Camp humor and grotesque combat combine to explore the question of whether we stick with family cause we love ’em or if we love ’em because we can’t escape. New Sounds from The West Coast
This modern-day tribute will explore the forward-thinking aesthetic of California’s most esteemed experimental sound artists. The concert will be performed by Ensemble 303, a music collective dedicated to the propagation of Experimental Music. Saturday, December 18. 8 p.m. $5 donation. 64 Washington Avenue, Presents Gallery.
10th Annual Holiday Jingle Bell Jamboree
Hosted by Ethan Schlesser and Rev. Daniel Meeter, who is both pastor of Old First Church and a Civic Council Trustee, the concert will feature music groups, dance ensembles, choral performances, and festive holiday cheer as the audience sings along. The event is free and open to all, but there is a suggested donation. The Civic Council will be collecting new and gently used unwrapped gifts for its Toys for Tots campaign helping local organizations that work with families in need. The Jingle Bell Jamboree, co-sponsored by the Civic Council, was initially launched in the aftermath of 9/11 as a way of bringing the community together to help with the healing process. Bryan Collier: Children’s Reading
Artfully Yours Join award-winning author/illustrator Bryan Collier in a children’s discussion, reading and signing of his newest book, “Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave.” Bryan will sign his latest tale and his other popular children’s titles, and some of the originals and limited editions from his books will be exhibited and available for purchase.
