The Fourth on Franklin Bar Crawl kicks off at 2pm with an hour of free (FREE!) cans of PBR to anyone wearing red, white and blue. After that, each of the 5 participating bars will offer drink specials, giveaways and a couple of raffles. Plus, each bar will be decked out as a different national treasure. So come check out the boozy version of Mount Rushmore, Statue of Liberty and your other favorite landmarks. The crawl culminates with a Most Patriotic Costume Competion at t.b.d. Brooklyn (224 Franklin St.) where budding Uncle Sam’s and Betsy Ross’s can compete for fun prizes. Sunday, July 4. 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Free. For participating bars, use the link above. Franklin Avenue.

Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Contest
Joey Chestnut won Nathan’s Famous July Fourth International Eating Contest by eating 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes last year. His rival Takeru Kobayashi ate 3 1/2 less. Come this year and see if Chestnut can keep his title. All are welcome! Sunday, July 4. 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Free. 1 Jericho Plaza, Nathan’s Famous, Coney Island.

The Brooklyn Flea
The Flea is located not only at the former bank at One Hanson, but also at the Fort Greene market. On Saturdays, the market will be located at the Fort Greene location and on Sundays you can find the market at One Hanson which is located at the clocktower Art Deco building at Flatbush Ave., across from the Target mall. The Flea features 100 vendors and a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday & Sunday, July 3 & 4. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 176 Lafayette Avenue and 1 Hanson Place, Skylight One Hanson.

Sunday Best
Sunday Best is throwing together a backyard barbecue. They’re at their new home in beautiful Bushwick, with the sound system set up under the wide-open sky in Brooklyn Fire Proof’s courtyard, the grill heating up fresh-ground burgers, corn on the cob and hot dogs (courtesy of Taccolada)… and then there’s the music. Every DJ we host to play with us at Sunday Best is an ace, but rarely do they fit in so well with the spirit of a particular day as Rich Medina. Sunday, July 4.

Big Portside BlueBQ

Declare Independence
Celebrate the 233rd anniversary of the United States’ independence at Lefferts. Look extra patriotic as you make yourself a plumed hat to wear while signing a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence. All are welcome! Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4. 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Free.
