The Northside Festival

There’ll be shows at practically every single venue in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, with performances from over 250 bands including Titus Andronicus, Les Savy Fav, Liars, ?uestlove, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, and more; plus showcases curated by industry influencers like Consequence of Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kanine Records, Baeble Music, Green Owl Records, American Myth Recordings, Duke Street Blog, DailyVinyl.com, and I Rock I Roll. Oh yeah….there will be tons of art and film, as well. Thursday – Sunday, June 24 – 27. Times, prices, and venues vary.

Fort Greene Festival
Hip Hop artist and actor Common will headline Fort Greene Festival this weekend; Malik Yoba will host, and Rosie Perez will co-host. Now dubbed, The Art, Soul, and Future of Brooklyn, FGF will continue in its mission to celebrate the cultures, cuisine, and artistic diversity of Brooklyn. This will be a day filled with a mixture of musical performances, food, film, and shopping. Saturday, June 26. 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. Free. Corner of DeKalb Avenue and Washington Park.

FABfest Brooklyn
FABfest on Fulton Street concludes with a 4-hour music and dance tribute to Michael Jackson on the anniversary of his passing. There will be games, crafts and activities for kids; chess tournaments and mini-golf putt-putt competitions. Plus EVERYBODY PAINT is back, where everyone is invited to grab a brush and create a work of art inspired by MJ. Sunday, June 27. 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Free. Fulton Street between Lafayette and South Oxford.

Seining the River Wild
Find out what lives in the waters under the Manhattan Bridge! Join on in as the Brooklyn Conservatory uses a 30-foot seining net to catch fish and other remarkable East River creatures. Families and kids can take a good look at the fish before they are released and brought back to their homes. All are welcome to attend. Saturday, June 26. 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Free. Beach under the Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge Park.

We Hardly Knew V
On behalf of NYCentric and Newmindspace, there will be a last run of the V train on Friday. Part funeral party, part protest, We Hardly Knew V aims at revealing the anger, frustration and indignation of New York commuters due to the number of New York City subway lines that will be terminated due to a growing budget gap, mismanagement and the MTA’s inability to hear the Voice of the commuters. Friday, June 25. 11 p.m. Free. Last car of the train, 2nd Ave / Lower East Side V Uptown platform.

Hands Across the Sand
This Saturday at Coney Island Beach, New Yorkers will be joining hands in a symbolic “line in the sand” to protest offshore drilling and promote clean energy. Participants will be holding their hands for fifteen minutes at 12 p.m. A big turnout is expected. Similar gatherings will be taking place simultaneously in communities across the country and around the world! Everyone is welcome. Saturday, June 26. Participants are asked to start arriving at 11 a.m. Event starts at 12 p.m. Free. Coney Island Beach.

Eat Healthy/Eat Local Fair
There will not solely be healthy food at this fair, although there will be plenty of it, but also capoeira demonstrations by Resurgent Fitness and free yoga, pilates and Qi Gong classes by Force and Flow Studio, plus lots of other wellness stuff. There will also be a BBQ for all to enjoy. Saturday, June 26. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free. 224 Brooklyn Avenue, St. Gregory the Great Parish Roman Catholic Church.

Jazz: Brooklyn’s Beat
Brooklyn’s own Felix Hernandez will bring Grand Army Plaza to life with a free Rhythm Revue dance party. Hernandez will spin an eclectic mix of classic soul, Motown, funk, salsa, and disco from the past three decades, free to the public. This event is part of Jazz: Brooklyn’s Beat, presented by TD Bank, which concludes this weekend. Saturday, June 26. 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Free. Grand Army Plaza (Bailey Fountain).

The Society for Clinton Hill’s Summer Picnic
Come and join in for a pot luck BBQ this Saturday. The Society for Clinton Hill be providing refreshments. This is a great way to meet your neighbors, new and old.
