Inspired by the Weeki Wachee Springs Mermaid Park – one of the nation’s oldest roadside attractions (and smallest cities) – A Thousand Thousand Slimy Things is a floating fantasia, staged on board a docked barge in Brooklyn’s historic Red Hook district. This play, conceived and directed by Jessica Brater and written by Katya Schapiro, is about conservation and changing our environment. All are invited. Friday, April 23 (through May 9th). 7 p.m. $18. F train to Smith and 9th Street. From there, take the B-77 Bus to Conover St. at the corner of Coffey St. Walk south on Conover toward the waterfront. Entrance gate is on the right.

PS 58 Flea Market and Shredfest
The 2nd Annual PS 58 PTA Flea Market takes place tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm in the PS 58 schoolyard at Carroll Street and Smith Street. There will also be a Shredfest going on simultaneously to bring all your old tax documents along and chuck them into the giant shredder truck that will be parked on the street.

The Brooklyn Flea
The Flea is located not only at the former bank at One Hanson, but also at the Fort Greene market. On Saturdays, the market will be located at the Fort Greene location and on Sundays you can find the market at One Hanson which is located at the clocktower Art Deco building at Flatbush Ave., across from the Target mall. The Flea features 100 vendors and a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday & Sunday, April 24 & 25. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 176 Lafayette Avenue and 1 Hanson Place, Skylight One Hanson.

Haiti Relief Event
Founded in 1994, Fonkoze USA is an American 501(c)3 organization dedicated to building the economic foundations for democracy in Haiti by providing the rural poor with the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty. A microfinance institution, Fonkoze acts as a de facto bank for many Haitians who are unable to get standard bank accounts. GBC recently celebrated its 150th Anniversary and is excited about hosting it’s second fundraising event for Fonkoze. Scheduled to perform at the event is the roots R&B band, the Legendary Park Slope Soul Patrol. There will be free activities for children and food for sale. Admission to the event is free, but donations are encouraged and will be collected during the event. Prospect Heights Craft Fair
This craft fair will host almost 40 pre-selected artists, designers and crafters from Brooklyn and beyond. There’s also going to be some delectable treats (food from Amorina) and a killer raffle (most of the vendors and local businesses have all donated for the raffle). In addition, proceeds from the event will go towards PS 9’s art program. Saturday, April 24. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free. 80 Underhill Avenue, PS 9.

THE VIGIL or THE GUIDED CRADLE: Opening Play
This play, written by Crystal Skillman and directed by John Hurley, involves a medieval mercenary that tortures a terrorist in 15th Century Prague while a young tourist in the 21st Century befriends a mysterious translator. This play is about the danger of crossing over, THE VIGIL or THE GUIDED CRADLE is a chilling portrait of the art of torture–its future created by its past. Saturday, April 24 (until May 8th). Children’s Earth Day Event
The North Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District will be presenting a Children’s Earth Day Event hosted by the Pacific Street Bears Community Garden. There will be face painting, eco-friendly arts and crafts, puppet storytelling, garden planting, free photos and much more. This event is specifically for children ages 2 – 10. This event is FREE and open to the public. Sunday, April 25. 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Free. The corner of Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street, Pacific Street Bears Community Garden.

The Mode Merr Spring Spectacular
This spectacular event is hosted by The World Famous “Bob”. Enjoy an afternoon of shopping, burlesque, live music, hot rods & more! Shop racks of Mode Merr, Miss Ruth’s Time Bomb Vintage, Minerva Accessories & Tease Salon Goodies. Plus PBR drink specials, raffles & more! Community / Precinct Unity Showcase
Patrol Borough Brooklyn South will be hosting the annual Community / Precinct Unity Showcase in Prospect Park. There will be entertainment, food, games and refreshments for both children and adults. All Brooklyn South precincts, including the 76th, will have a display at the showcase. Sunday, April 25. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 15th Street at Prospect Park West, Bartel-Pritchard Square.
