“NOW: In History!”: Civil War Draft Riots
The Second installment of: NOW: In History! at the Williamsburgh Library Auditorium
will feature New York City Historian and author of The Devil’s Own Work, Barnet Schecter on the topic of The Civil War Draft Riots of July 1863. With imminent Brooklyn Public Library budget cuts topping over $20 Million and a massive borough-wide cut back on library hours and resources, the historic Williamsburgh Library is losing critical funding. This “NOW: In History!” series aims to bring the attention of those who love local history to a public institute deserving of its support. All are welcome to learn some history and help out Brooklyn’s library system. Tuesday, July 13. Refreshments at 6 p.m. Lecture at 6:30 p.m. Free. 240 Division Street, The Williamsburg Library.

FORGOTTEN CITY LIGHTS: A Photographic Archive of NYC’s Street Lamposts
With photographs taken over the past 30+ years by Bob Mulero, an employee of the MTA and an avid toy collector, Mr. Mulero has been cataloging hundreds of New York’s lampposts since the 1970s. Mr. Mulero is joined in his historical efforts by the (seemingly) omniscient Kevin Walsh, who’s website chronicles (what appears to be) every single corner, cul-de-sac, dead-end, roundabout, and street direction in New York City. All are welcome to enjoy this special event. Thursday, July 15. 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Free. 370 Metropolitan Avenue, The City Reliquary.

People’s Hearing: B71 Bus Line
The Straphangers Campaign pulled together the voice and concerns of those effected by the B71 bus line service cut and there will be a hearing this Tuesday on behalf of the B71. This event will take place at Cooper Union in Manhattan before the MTA’s public hearing on Station Booth Closures. All are welcome. Tuesday, July 13. 5 p.m. Free. Cooper Square, Cooper Union.
