An Evening at Mr. Capote’s
The event takes place in the elegant 19th Century mansion on Willow Street where Capote lived and wrote. Curated by novelist and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Peter Hedges, the evening will include readings from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and, appropriately, A House on the Heights. The evening will also include a brief musical interlude of songs from the score of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Capote’s Broadway musical House of Flowers. A dessert reception will follow. Meals and Spiels
The City Reliquary Museum, in partnership with a host of Brooklyn’s finest purveyors of food, is hosting The First Ever Meals and Spiels, An Evening of Dinner & Lectures about NYC’s Food! It’s a dinner that will focus on the incredible foodshops, breweries, bakeries, and kitchens of North Brooklyn. Whats more, each dish and beverage in the meal will come paired with a lecture about the food on your fork and beverage in your glass! All proceeds will go towards the City Reliquary’s operational funds, to keep it open to the community at large. Guests will be able to take home Goody Bags stuffed with City Reliquary souvenirs, Not for Tourists Brooklyn guidebooks and more. Rock the Bowl
The Ubuntu Education Fund kicks off its inaugural Rock the Bowl event this Monday. For 10 years, Ubuntu has transformed the lives of the children of Port Elizabeth, South Africa by establishing an integrated system of medical, health, educational, and social interventions. Ubuntu provides over 40,000 of these children and their families with life-saving HIV support services and essential educational resources. The event will include performances from Antibalas, Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew, Lion of Ido, and Grind City, DJ sets by Eclectic Method & Geologist (Animal Collective), plus performances by dancers from the casts of Fela! & The Lion King (and aerialists from the ceiling!). Citizenship Drive
The Crown Heights Community Mediation Center is offering free immigration assistance to eligible individuals to complete the application forms. If you are eligible to apply for citizenship, you will be scheduled to meet with a trained volunteer to fill out the N-400/N-600 forms and receive information about the additional requirements to complete your application. Brooklyn Independents: Ugly Duckling Poets
