“Surviving the Economic Downturn in Cobble Hill”
Due to New York City’s unemployment rate at a reported 8.9% and with under-employment estimated at 17%, many Cobble Hill residents have been affected by the economic downturn, especially with so many working in the fields of finance, media, and law that have been hard-hit. The Cobble Hill Association’s Fall meeting will feature a panel discussion on coping strategies for this difficult economic environment. Fall Fling
Red Hook Playgroup, a non-profit preschool, presents its first Fall Fling, a dance party to benefit the build-out of their new school. Tickets are $25 for all the beer, dancing, and pizza you can handle. The beer is from Six Points and there will be a raffle with prizes including tickets to a private concert given by Norah Jones. Rare Dutch Documents Revealed
This event will have documents and books offering a view into the life of 17th century Nieuw-Nederland and the 18th century farming communities of Brooklyn, will be on display for three days in November at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. Many of these materials have not been seen in public for decades, but are coming out of the Lefferts archives for this special showing. All are welcome to attend. Energy Saving and Repairs
This event, sponsored by Neighborhood Housing Services of East Flatbush, will help you learn ways to save money on your energy bills. Preservation is Sustainability – A Panel
The Conservancy is presenting a panel Preservation is Sustainability: How to Make Your Historic House More Energy Efficient and is designed to provide a framework for understanding how preservation and sustainability are linked. The speakers will explain how owners and residents of historic houses can increase efficiency as they maintain their properties. Speakers include two architects and representatives from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
