CB 6 Meeting on Pier 7/Atlantic Basin
Community Board 6’s meeting will discuss the Pier 7/Atlantic Basin changes. New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced that Pier 11 would be leased to Phoenix Beverage, but the community wants them to be located at Pier 7, as well as new businesses and opportunities for that area (see proposed map above). However, NYCEDC is insisting on Pier 11 so attend the meeting and voice your opposition.
Tonight. 6:30 p.m. PS 15, 71 Sullivan Street.
Panel Discussion at powerHouse Books
There will be a panel discussion for the new book, Vandal Squad: Inside the New York City Transit Police Department, 1984-2004. The discussion will be between former police officers and graffiti writers. They will discuss the issues regarding the methods that the Vandal Squad employs and their impact on the lives of the writers themselves. Panelists include Vandal Squad author Joseph Rivera, former Commanding Officer Lieutenant Steven Mona, original Vandal Squad Lieutenant Ken Chiulli, graffiti legend COPE2, graffiti activist Ket, and street artist ELLIS G. To RSVP for the event, email RSVP@powerHouseArena.com.

CB 1 Board Meeting and Public Hearing
Community Board 1’s meeting will formally present the plans of the contextual rezoning of Greenpoint and Williamsburg. This rezoning seeks to preserve the character of 175 blocks in Greenpoint and Williamsburg by introducing height limits and introducing some areas of inclusionary (affordable) housing. City Planning will be making a presentation on proposed text amendments to the City’s housing program.
Tuesday, March 17. 6:30 p.m. Swinging 60’s Senior Citizens Center, 211 Ainslie Street.

Community Board 14’s Executive Committee Meeting
The New York City Department of City Planning will brief Community Board 14 on the Inclusionary Housing Zoning Text Amendment. This is important to the community because, upon the anticipated adoption of the Flatbush rezoning proposal, these Inclusionary Housing rules will apply to certain portions of the district.
Thursday, March 19. 6 p.m. CB14 District Office, 810 East 16th Street.
94th Precinct Community Council Meeting
The 94th Precint is hosting its monthly meeting for the community. For more information, please contact Carlos Ortiz at 718-383-5298.
Tonight. 7:30 p.m. North Fork Bank, 807 Manhattan Avenue.
I look forward to the panel discussion at powerhouse books between former firefighters and the “flame artists” who captivated so much of brooklyn during the 1970s, including the impact of arson laws on the lives of the artists themselves.
Wow, they used a lot of gold paint on those middle piers, but I like how the colour turned out.
