The canal can’t be smelling too good on a day like today.
The canal has been extra stinky lately, and the water is a very odd cloudy green. I’m thinking that since the circulating tunnel is out of commission, the heat has caused an algal bloom. Other thoughts?

Does it actually serve any purpose as a canal?????
yes, there are people actually living on it in delapidated houseboats living out their faux white trash fantasy lifestyle.

There is a scrap metal company on the southern section that still uses it for transportation.
There are a few private boats that dock along the canal.
It is also used for sewer overflow when it rains.
Does it actually serve any purpose as a canal?????
Look at the picture of the Gowanus canal……I still don’t know why they are wasting all this time and energy to clean it when it will never be clean……
I still think the better solution is to dam it drain it and fill it in, plants a few trees and call it a day…..and just use the land for natural-ness…..
