Blacks and Latinos get busted for pot more frequently because they get stopped and frisked by the cops more frequently. So typical White pothead walks all over town with bud onhim/her and will likely never ever get stopped and frisked by a cop. Black/Latino pothead is exponentially more likely to be stopped by a cop for a stop/frisk, at which the pot is found and they’re busted.
The last time I was in Rikers, most of the inmates were white hipsters under 25. I also saw that old lady in furs. She was running a numbers and protection racket from her cell.

White people smoke outside (Windsor Terrace, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, all over the city)just like Black people do. I’ve seen old white ladies strolling near Central Park in their furs smoking joints on during a weekay afternoon, I don’t think they’ll be seen in lockup by the end of the night!

not only is Clinton Street hopelessly noisy and traffic infested as is clear from this photo but there are subways running beneath the street nearby! And of course all those ninety-somethings with their walkers trying to trip you up.

I don’t doubt there is an element of racism invloved in a percentage of the arrests. However, the Times left out a critical piece of information before it drew its conclusions – i.e. where people were arrested. If white people tend to smoke pot in their houses, and others tend to smoke it outside in view – then you’ll have disparate numbers of arrests for each group. Does anyone know if there is a race/location breakdown of where the arrests occur?
Huge waste of time and money anyway. I say arrest people who don’t scoop dog poop instead.
