Beautiful photo. Simply beautiful.
Anyone out there remember the old “Crowbar” in the East Village??????
UH should change the name of the place to “CROWBAR”
johnife, good post. Regarding New York being a tolerant live-and-let-live city, take a gander at the more recent story under this blog “CB2 To Nip Liquor Licenses in the Bud (Light)”.
I like how the complaining dude’s actions caused a half doozen firefighters to stand around outside Union Hall, presumably talking and bothering the neighbors, at 11:15 at night.
What an asshat. People need to relax. I avoid UH on the weekends because of their douchey crowd, but I like what they’ve done with the place and think it’s a worthy addition to the neighborhood.
I have no love for Union Hall (lousy music space, slow bartenders, excessive douchebag clientelle) but when you look at the mitigation efforts they detail on their website (linked from one of the Gothamist comments), especially the event sequence outlined in the timeline page, I reckon it’s really hard to come to any conclusion other than they’re bending over backwards to be good citizens and the objectors are total whack jobs. I very much doubt I’ll ever visit the place again (though I’m even less likely to visit the Brazen Head), but I sure hope they prevail in their battle against these killjoys, if only for the sake of New York’s status as a tolerant, entertaining, live-and-let-live city.
It would be nice to see a video of the whole Union Hall meeting tomorrow….no close ups of Roberta though!!!
Wow, that Union Hall movie on Gothamist is priceless.
