  1. I need my car so i can get to HD or to do groceries when you own brownstone it is almost a must, always something to fix and improve. Also i go ski every weekend in winter to VT
I used to live without car for long years and felt sort of trapped. My quality of life dramatically improved since i got one. I park in garage for 190$ and it is worth it.
In summer i use motorcycle to get to work in Manhattan it reduces my commute from 45 to 20 minutes and it is fun.

It is good point permits would make decrease public use of public space and add unnecessary complication.

  2. Why so many own a car? convenience, luxury. Many people work where ‘public transportation’ would require very very long time each way when driving would be 20 minutes. Traveling on wkends, trying to get whole family somewhere.
You may have a very circumscribed little world, but many people don’t.
Can live in neighborhoods where conveniences are not around corner.
Other night went to Lowe’s, Home Depot and Fairway – after getting home from work at 7.
This morning got onto subway car where wanted to wretch from smell of defation sitting in middle of car.
    Many reasons dear.

  3. “It will only get worst when AY is completed. People should either use public transportation or pay the price for using their vehicles.”

Put your money where your mouth is and take the subway yourself. Part of the cost of owning a car in NYC is the neverending search for a space. Deal with it.

I will never understand why residents of a city with such an extensive public transit network insist on owning a car. I guess parts of the suburban mentality never die.

  4. The reason it is so hard to find parking in Park Slope is that too many Park Slopers have cars. If all of them get permits, there will still be too many Park Slopers with cars. This won’t solve the problem at all. You will just pay your $200 and get NOTHING in return except continued aggravation.

  5. Why on earth would we do this – in order to keep people from having the occasional overnight guest? Doesn’t it seem like this would be a big pain in the neck plus another beaurocracy to have to deal with?

  6. there are taxis, subways, car service.
If you live there use them and put your car in garage and be a more gracious host/ess to visitors for the evening or the wkend and let them have the parking spot Mr/Ms Selfish.
