  1. http://nimbybrooklyn.blogspot.com/2008/07/thank-us-for-destroying-carroll-gardens.html
“Any concerned Carroll Gardener (or anyone from HilBloeCoc for that matter) should be outraged by the smug attitudes exhibited today in the New York Time’s profile of Alan Harding and Jim Mamary, who can be thanked for turning our adorable brownstone heaven into a purgatorial playground for hipsters, yuppies, yunnies, the stroller mafia, and, of course, yogurts!

They’re the villains who opened Patois, Gowanus Yacht Club, Zombie Hut, Union Smith Cafe, Pacifico, Trout, and the infamous Oyster Bar. Sure, I patronize these establishments, but only because there are simply no other (decent) alternatives! I hate myself for it!”

What the heck is this dude yammering about? I moved to Carroll Gardens back when there were only a couple of old school Italian Restraints and some Chinese take away. And the only bar was a scary old man place near the Citibank. Back then the opening of a Greek Coffee Shop on Court Street was cause for celebration. Smith Street was nothing but social clubs and religious what not stores or people living in the ground floor store space as an apartment. When Patois opened it led the way for a renaissance of Smith Street. Uncle Pho’s (now sadly closed, I still miss their great shrimp spring rolls and yummy bouillabaisse) soon followed. Alan Harding and Jim Mamary didn’t destroy Smith Street and the area, they saved it.

  2. So PS Mom so dumb that she:
    A) Can not get on the phone to IKEA and see if they have the crib in stock
    B) Find out that there are free shuttle busses to IKEA, and that you don’t need to spend $14 on a cab
    C) Documents how dumb she is by ranting about it

Anyone with a lick of common sense should think….hey IKEA just opened I bet that they are stripped bare of their stock by the hordes of New Yorkers going there. I better call to see if they have that crib in stock before I head over there on the subway to free shuttle.

But since PS Mom doesn’t seem to have common sense, I would recommend she head to Madison Ave in the 90’s Streets for the overpriced baby boutiques that will have cribs in stock and deliver them for you, or they can load the box right into you limo that is waiting outside;)

Personally, I’m not even going to set foot in IKEA until things die down a bit, and then I will either take the shuttle bus, or pop in after work in via the ferry that is just steps from my office.

  3. What’s the backstory on the coney island rink? personally it sounds like fun. i like the roller circle at central park but now i don’t have to leave the brooklyn to get my roller groove on! sweet! i got my skates and whistle ready!

  4. Re: 3 Most- and Least-Expensive Dumbo Rentals

Ha! Instead of minimizing losses now, developers will attempt to “hold on” by renting out, only to maximize losses later when they find that rents, like prices, are falling too. I’m loving this downturn.

  5. why is everyone so bitter at those guys for opening reatuarants?

They started these restaurants when the area was less desirable and I am sure have made a ton of money. I give them credit for having the vision and also the balls to do it as well. You can never have enough restaurants to choose from.

I just moved to Boerum Hill and so many of the people in these areas do not want change…I guess you can have the area back the way it was in the 80’s and early 90’s with crime, dirt and so on…WHAT A JOKE…
