Last night Community Board 1 took another step toward addressing residents’ complaints about the East River State Park summer concerts, with its Parks Committee voting to limit the number of big shows from 15 to 10 and saying their capacity should drop from 6,500 to 5,000 people, according to the Brooklyn Paper. The Open Space Alliance, which puts on the series, says it will be impossible to make sweeping changes this year since the organization already has contracts for 15 shows. People in the neighborhood have complained about the noise, litter, and crowds they say are associated with the concerts. The resolution will be considered by the full board next week.

i support selling a few less tickets.
I also support a no jam band policy. Even when the music is good, they draw terrible crowds.
I really doubt its the new condo owners. These CB meetings are almost always led by gross olds who hate everything new to the neighborhood except the piles of money they now sit on thanks to the new crowds. The meetings are at like 6pm on weeknights – who is able to attend that other than olds, unemployed busybodies and local religious leader types? Ending fun in Williamsburg & Greenpoint was on the CB1 agendas before most of the new buildings were even open.
I wonder if the CB even knows there’s going to be a few shows played in McCarren Park right across from Turkey’s Nest for Northside Fest.
If the waterfront doesn’t get a better line up there’s gonna be no one attending over there. I don’t know many people who would pay 50 bucks to see Kid Cudi or Death Cab for Cutie.
wow, with music and booze being the two best reasons to live in billyburg, now they’re getting toned down. Too bad.
let me guess. This is really maybe a handful of entitled condo doucheratti who are complaining like little bitches? And maybe a few bitter old timers. Suck it up. You don’t OWN your block.
What a joke. The vast majority of concert goers are actually fairly well behaved. I live close by and think these are great shows for the neighborhood. They could always stand to be run a little better, but to ban them or severely restrict them is just a bad idea. If you want peace and quiet, I’ll never understand why you’d choose to live in one of the busiest and biggest cities in North America.
It’s not really the concert itself…it’s the overflow in the neighborhood, I would think. I’ve been to a few of these things. Not everyone get’s in, and it ends up a party outside the state park. Not to mention the easily available nitrous tanks on the side streets.

The CB ca’tn actually do that. They can recommend, but it isn’t within their power to actually force any changes. But their opinion does have the power of persuasion behind it. The article says the CB’s vote is advisory.
