  1. Re: Q&A with the 88th Precinct [NY Times]

Was there really gunfire in Clinton Hill (Gates/Cambridge) on MLK’s b-day? I heard about it but have a hard time believing it since it hasn’t showed up here. Was it confused with what happened in Bed Stuy that day/night?

  2. millions of people rely on the subway to get to and from work which is probably its most important function. This is a 24/7 city and the subway has never been all that reliable, even in good years. It’s a far sight better than it was, but instead of sinking billions into one leg of a Manhattan line, or giving away the railyard rights to Ratner, they could have used that money to improve the system overall. But no.

  3. “cheapest and most reliant and most expansive subway system in america”

Uh, basically NYC has the ONLY subway system in America. Better than the crappy system in Chicago, I guess. Its like saying NYC is the smartest kid on the short bus, but nothing to brag about.

  4. I’m with Rob, NYC subways are cheaper than almost all comparable big cities. Sometimes the weekend work & rerouting is illogical, but that’s a small price to pay.
Also, I find the E much better than the A anyway for getting to JFK from Manhattan.
I think a much bigger weakness in the system is that there is no good fast public transport link to LGA.

  5. the weekend subway services are not THAT bad. people just like to complain. things are always rerouted and there are always signs up and heavens forbid you might have to take a bus or a car service. wah wah wah wah wah we have the cheapest and most reliant and most expansive subway system in america and it only costs 2.25 a ride but people still complain complain complain, and coming from me who complains about everything under the moon says a lot

    *rob*

  6. The weekend subway schedules are a disaster. Luckily I’m not here most weekends. i’ve never taken the augmented free bus shuttle service but who the hell wants to sit on a bus for 5 – 30 blocks instead of the subway.

The whole scheduling thing is asinine. The A never runs express on weekends. How the hell can the Capital of The World provide such shitty subway service. Making people take a local train in & out of JFK is just asinine.
