“What kind of moron advertises a communications company with a broken neon sign.”
That’s hilarious. My other pet peeve is the apartment building (I believe it’s in Confucius Square) which, along certain points of the bridge, is the only thing partially obstructing the view of midtown. But alas, let’s remember nicer things and those who have died in our nation’s service.
Was down by barge music. The oohs and ahs from the tourists were almost as loud as the fireworks. Brilliant.
And what I don’t understand about the sign is that they go our of the way to light it when it’s broken – which it is 10-15% of the time. What kind of moron advertises a communications company with a broken neon sign. All of that electricity to provide everyone in New York with a negative impression of their company.
There I’m done. Gonna put my mind back on the pretty fireworks. . .
Johnny, I hate that sign too – it’s an abomination! But fortunately I couldn’t see it from my angle (by the Promenade). Makes me so leery of Two Trees and other developers wanting to build close to the Bridge. Anyway, I couldn’t help but think how people, especially tourists fortunate enough to be in the area around 9PM must have been blown away by how beautiful it all was.
I forgot as well. But the fireworks and lights were just stunning. A real New York memory.
Although it’s a shame that the backdrop from my angle was the god-awful verizon sign. Part of it was out, as is often the case. Wish they’d just turn the damn eyesore off at night.
The fireworks last night were spectacular. With the backdrop of the light show on the Brooklyn Bridge, one couldn’t help getting goosebumps and feeling proud to live in this wonderful city. Does anyone happen to have a link to photos and/or video of the fireworks last night? I forgot to bring my camera with me.
awesome photo!

Taco Bell is way ahead in the polls.
