There’s little restaurant renaissance going on at the somewhat unlikely intersection of Classon and Greene Avenues on the border of Clinton Hill and Bed Stuy. Cuban spot Pilar was there first at 393 Classon. Then Nero Doro popped up earlier this year at 395 Classon serving paninis and other light simple Italian fare. (We just ate there for the first time last week and loved it—both the chill vibe and the sandwich.) Now, in the same building, a vietnamese sandwich shop is opening. The Local, which broke the news last week, says it will likely be called Tigerlily and that the owner is a former Pratt student. Sweet news. We love us some banh mi! GMAP

  1. That is great news. Love the options. Coupled with the bar that is supposed to open on Grand off Fulton, the place opening in the former Brown Betty Cafe, the west african restaurant opening on Fulton St by the post office along with the Latin restaurant a few doors down, Clinton Hill is fast becoming a place one will be able to go for good food and drinks besides Kush, Locanda,Pilar and the already established places in the neighborhood, all ending with great desserts from Michael Allen or my new fave place Essential Cakes. Oh my goodness, their pineapple coconut and strawberry shortcakes are to die for. Good luck trying to get either of these on any given day since they sell out so quickly although the other cakes are just as good.

  2. It’s certainly made my route home from Fort Greene more interesting. There’s a bit of momentum happening an avenue over as well: Sushi Tatsu opened last week on Bedford and Jefferson, plus there’s an Indian restaurant opening soon on Bedford and Greene.

  3. such a highly unlikely spot for a cluster of cool new businesses, and yet so welcome. Dare I make the call of “momentum” for my little charmingly blighted corner of Clinton Hill?
