The former home of My Little India (now a frequent vendor at the Flea) at 96 South Elliott Place in Fort Greene is getting a new tenant: a Turkish restaurant. The sign hanging over the door doesn’t exactly scream “high end” but you never know.

  1. I’m not sure you can chalk this one up to gentrification. It seems to me that My Little India, although there a long time, was more “upscale” than some dime-a-dozen crappy Turkish place.

  2. I can’t believe they’re putting this in place of My Little India. I’m so disappointed. My Little India was a fantastic place with great furniture. Sigh…gentrification….

  3. i personally am unable to appreciate high-end turkish food. my tastes are admittedly pedestrian when it comes to middle-eastern cuisine – i’m all about the kebabs, soups, and salads. and none of those seem to require much flair or fancy in order to bring the deliciousness.

  4. Might actually be a good thing that it doesn’t scream “high end”

Personally, I’d rather have a moderately priced, genuine spot rather than a mediocre “high end” one (which, unfortunately, seems to be the standard fare in the area)

  5. Yeah…you and Bush and Paulson according to the What, Mr. B!!!

The cross thread discussion and now the reference to Thai food will be very confusing to future readers of the thread!!!

  6. I love Turkish food, it is wonderful! Can’t wait to try it out.

BTW – Went to T-Cup this AM on the way to work. I got a plain cup of regular coffee with milk that was hot, strong and delicious. Worth checking out!

  7. LOL. I thought B’stoner was just trying to get twhat all excited! No Thai fetish here. Never been to Thailand.

I see the heading has been changed, so my initial post is meaningless.
