The Jikishinkan Aikido Dojo on Smith and Baltic has relocated to Dean Street near 3rd Avenue, leaving behind the Smith Street storefront it had occupied since 1992. The martial arts school may or may not have inspired a similar establishment in “Motherless Brooklyn.” The Smith Street space’s landlord had charged Jikishinkan Aikido much less than market-rate rent for many years, according to an article in the Brooklyn Paper, but decided he had to hike it this year, precipitating the relocation to Dean Street. wow, that is crazy. It looks like it fell apart a few years ago though. Too bad. I’d love to see a new movie come out that is a total love affair with Brooklyn.

I thought the same thing, but I also thought that the book was so visual, that they’d screw it up on film by eliminating something.
