After several years at its 55 Washington location, Dumbo stalwart Recycle-a-Bicycle today opens at its new (also Walentas-owned) location a couple of blocks away at 35 Pearl Street. The shop promotes everyday bike use in the city and provides youth training and environmental education to kids through its after-school youth program. (There’s a sister store in the East Village). When a truck mangled our parked bicycle earlier this fall, we donated it for them to use as parts and then got our Craigslist replacement tuned up there. The Dumbo store is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. GMAP

  1. wow i am so disappointed and shocked by the poster “guest at December 3, 2007 6:06 PM.”

his or her hostility and anger are so unnecessary and were a really unpleasant surprise on an otherwise civil message list.

i’ve been meaning to check out recycle a bicycle in dumbo for a few years now but haven’t had the chance. still looking forward to it. cheers!

  2. dude – CHILL out. everyone’s is entitled to explain why they’ve had a bad experience with a store, restaurant, etc. that’s part of why this site is helpful. the first poster didn’t rant the way you are. he just pointed out a few examples of his experience. you would have done the place a much greater service if you had responded with equally measured praise. the way you’re doing it makes me feel like maybe i should just stay away from the place if people like you with rage issues hang out there. thanks for nothing.

  3. How is he being an asshole if he’s simply relating an experience without even saying “dont ever go there”?… but you’re absolutely right about some people on this site….”everyone you know” goes there? do your grammar homework, bikey Mcgee

  4. Much as I would want to totally support this enterprise, my experience with buying a 3-spd bike for my wife was horrendous. Had to take it back twice for obvious faults, and the II time they took 10 days to fix it. My wife used it twice more before the tire *blew* out (not just a flat.) And the brakes were still iffy. btw, this bike cost $200, so it was not all that much of a bargain.

They seem to have good intentions, but business acumen is lacking. So buyer beware, they do have good bikes if you do your homework.
