The drumroll for the new Pies’n’ Thighs space in Williamsburg has been a long one: Eater’s mentioned it more than a dozen times in the last 18 months. A couple of weeks ago the blog mentioned a target opening date of November 1, which looked realistic when we stopped by the new storefront at 166 South 4th Street a few days ago. One thing’s for sure: Anticipation is high for the reemergence of the beloved southern-style restaurant. GMAP P*Shark DOB

  1. Is this the same Egg…?

While the name suggests formal attire, there’s no dress code at this neighborhood pub from the owners of Cake Shop. Classic cocktails from the 20-seat horseshoe bar will include the dark and stormy and the sazerac, though craft beers and cask ales are the real focus, with a rotating selection dispensed from 14 taps. Something that does get dressed up: the pub-grub menu from chef-partner Paul Cacici (Egg, Union Square Cafe), which includes a duck-confit sandwich with fig jam and arugula, and his take on fish-and-chips. 210 Prospect Park West at 16th St, Park Slope, Brooklyn (347-725-3479)

  2. Jeff, Jonathan and staff,

Can you look into and report on what’s going on with the corner store at Cumberland and Lafayette? They’ve been closed and now it appears work is going on there (looks like demolition and a dumpster was dropped off).

Because it has that deep sidewalk, I’ve always thought it would make GREAT outdoor seating for a cafe/bistro. If St*rb*cks or a Quotidian Pain ends up opening there I think I may pass out! (…from annoyance)

If not a restaurant, I’d LOVE a good green grocer! That gets my vote!!! Apparently, the fruit/vegetable stores can make a lot of money.

The neighborhood could use a few other types of businesses. I think this website has hosted such conversations in the past.

Whatever they open, I hope it’s exciting!!! If they’re simply closed to remodel the store (which it needed), it will be a bit of a let-down.

The Nigerian Restaurant on the opposite corner appears is near to opening!

  3. This news is encouraging, but after hearing similar news for the past 2 years since they closed, I’m not holding my breath until I can see a pie on my thigh.

In the meantime, Egg’s biscuits and sausage gravy have beaten the tar out of P&T’s version (or at least my memory of it… it’s been so very long).
