According to the permit posted in the window, the former butcher shop at 72 Hudson Avenue in Vinegar Hill is in the process of being converted into an “eating and drinking establishment.” Our call to the phone number on the DOB app went unanswered, but we’re starting to wonder whether this may be where former Freemans chef Jean Adamson may be planning to set up shop. (See Eater, Grub Street and Brooklyn Based for more on Adamson’s departure and plans.) After all, this cobblestone stretch of Hudson Avenue certainly has that kind of old world vibe the Freemans folks covet. Update: Based on this Eater post, it’s looking like this space will indeed be the new Freeman’s! GMAP
YES!
This is a cool nabe and anything the do would hopefully complement the old quiet quirky vibe…however lets hope they forgo the old timey bartender in suspenders and curled mustache thing
There’s an approval letter from Landmarks in the window also
What do the DOB permits say? The building is in the Vinegar Hill Historic District and any exterior work will need to be reviewed by LPC.
too bad for all the projects
I haven’t been to VH in a couple of years now. Is it still old empty storefronts, vacant since the last era (or so)? If so, I think it would be quite exciting to witness this little enclave come to life again. Maybe this new place is the beginning.
secluded
This is a great spot for a funky restaurant!
Doesn’t the freeman’s guy live on that street? There was something in Apt Therapy recently with slides of a house he was renovating with a big hole in the floor.
