Emily and Melissa Elsen, a pair of South Dakotan sisters, just opened Four & Twenty Blackbirds on 3rd Avenue at 8th Street. New York magazine says that the Elsens have been “custom-baking out of their Crown Heights apartment” for the last year, whipping up buttery handmade crusts filled with local fruit. But pie isn’t their only game—they’ll also be serving “breakfast pastries, quiche, soups, salads, sandwiches, and all manner of sweets, plus Irving Farm coffee.” GMAP

    the bars on the windows and doors just make it a little un-inviting though, you don’t know if it is open or not……
