For the past couple weeks workers have been renovating the ground-floor space in one of the old apartment buildings on 4th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd streets, and according to DOB records the storefront will eventually be the home of a cafe. More specifically, the permits say: “Cafe bar and multipurpose room for cultural activities (art gallery, music performance, poetry reading, book signing, video and film review, art class’s ..).” GMAP

  1. Unbelievable. I actually lived in that rat infested place and built it out with my roommate into a livable situation. The backyard was constantly bombarded by eggs and pork fat from the upstairs rent-controlled neighbors. One family lives in a majority of the building into the adjacent building, an incestuous rent-controlled utterly disgusting lot of individuals. We’d find bag of human feces thrown where our bedroom and kitchen was, constant urination on our front doors and harassment everyday. Eventually it got so out of hand they held knives to me telling us to move until the beat-down which dragged everyone through court for around a year. The landlord and super (the uncle) did absolutely nothing to curb the clowns in the building finally raising the rent to $3500 which led to my prompt moving. The amount of work, time and money I put in cannot be replaced — forget about the beat downs and constant negative energy from upstairs. A good name for the bar should be “Ass Clown Paradise”.
