Streetlevel: New Cafe for Dumbo
It looks like Dumbo is getting a new cafe called Dumbo Muffin. The signage at 63 Pearl Street says it will have an “Espresso Bar & Gourmet Food,” though it’s unclear whether this is really what the neighborhood needs. It looks like Dumbo is getting a new cafe called Dumbo Muffin. The signage at 63 Pearl Street says it will have an “Espresso Bar & Gourmet Food,” though it’s unclear whether this is really what the neighborhood needs. After all, there’s Rebar around the corner, Almondine on Water Street and Choice is about to open on Jay Street. We would have preferred a Banh Mi joint, but hope this place does well! GMAP
January subject to permits, the hard part!
Does anyone else hate these “MUFFIN” places? Awful. CT, BK, DUMBO all awful. And as far as similar stuff in dumbo, it makes you wonder if anyone does any market research anymore before opening up the same business three times over…
Terri (sp) seems pretty mellow and not concerned about that building in dumbo being delayed or the closed shop on Atlantic. I heard through the grapevine he has some sort of sweet heart deal in Dumbo along the lines of free rent for a few years. But then again it was through the grapevine.
Between this and atlantic yards supposedly going forward (good news for his atlantic ave site) he is having a great year. And he still has great sandwiches.
This place might not open until they resolve some legal issues with the name:

“Dumbo Muffin.” Sounds like a mobster’s nickname for his arm candy. “C’mere, ya little Dumbo Muffin.”
vietnamese sandwich shop please! brownstoner picks the right food….
I like the veiled reference to where/how you eat your daily lunch.
Choice is about to open? They have been saying that since the spring of 2008 and the space is still under construction. What’s the deal? Did they run out of money?
