Good news for Crown Heights (and those in Prospect Heights who don’t mind walking a couple of blocks): A new cafe called Glass Shop is set to open 766 Classon Avenue (in the space to the left) between St. Johns and Sterling place. Not sure when the opening is, but when we passed by this weekend it didn’t look too imminent. GMAP

  1. As a relatively recent arrival to Classon Ave who has heard this debate ad infinitum, I think many might agree that the Shuttle tracks and viaduct provide as appropriate a border between the neighborhoods as any other named above. Of course, once Franklin Ave gets a Starbucks, the Prospect Heights designation will expand to cover that, too.

  2. There’s also an old synagogue east of Classon that labels the area Prospect Heights. But try to tell that to any of the recent arrivals. Petty squabbles of neighborhood boundaries aside, I’m happy that this place is opening. I hope it’s cozy and that they have genuine hot cocoa (no powder in packets, please)

  3. Being that Prospect Heights High School is on CLASSON ave, I think Classon is Prospect Heights…plus being born and raised long here, I don’t need the Encyclopedia…it’s PH.
HOWEVER, I actually think Classon area, just east of Washington ares is becoming cooler (still retaining some of the flavor of the folks that have lived here for 30+ yrs) than the undisputed areas of PH, so I’d like to see it defect and take on its own name – my vote is Krow Hill after the original name for Crown Heights.

  4. Encyclopedia of New York City says Washington is the border. It would be a heck of a lot simpler if Classon were the PH/CH border since it’s already the border for Clinton Hill and Bed Stuy.
