7th Avenue south of 9th Street continues in its evolution. While the former Tea Lounge space remains shuttered and construction wages on at the wine-bar-to-be, a new dry cleaner has opened on 7th between 9th and 10th Streets. (It’s next door to the ever-changing burger bar, half of which was a dry cleaner years ago). Better than a bank or chain store, do you think? Spotless Cleaners &#8212 we’re not sure if this is related to the Kensington cleaner of the same name &#8212 is staffed by friendly Russian ladies, including Roza the “high class tailor.” Grand opening specials include a 20% discount for six months.

  1. Why would you pay by the shirt? My laundry washes everything and puts shirts and pants on hangers… You’re paying all that extra just for the hanger and pressing? If you buy decent no-iron shirts (Brooks Bros. for example), you don’t need to iron.

$1.50? or $2.00. Man. That would be only 10-15 shirts for what I pay for a HUGE sack o’ clothes.

Crazy rich people don’t know how to economize!

  2. The organic place I go to that’s $1.50 for the laundered dress shirt is on Montague, just west of Hicks, wedged between Heights Cafe and Teresa’s restaurant. It’s run by a pretty nice guy (yes Korean, Dave) and has a nifty coffee / hot chocolate / tea machine at the front. To increase business, he should consider hiring a guy to stand outside of the store and make people spill their complimentary beverage on their clothes by bumping into them on their way out.
