More competition for the Fulton Mall sneaker stores: Heavyweight sports goods retailer Modell’s is getting ready to set up shop at 450 Fulton Street. From the looks of it, the grand opening is still a few months off. GMAP

This is a beautiful old building that’s had a hideous first floor makeover. I walk by every day on my way to the subway and had been hoping they would be restoring the street level facade, but alas, no. Why 3 Models in one neighborhood? Why 4 Payless?
You need as many Modell’s as possible. Everytime I go to the one on Flatbush near Atlantic there are 4-5 staff behind the registers, two people waiting to pay, and still you can’t get out of there.
Finally I have a reason to sign the contract at BelTel!

I remember walking to Modell’s back in the day to buy my Brooklyn Dodger’s gear. Hat’s were a nickle, and jersey’s a dime… ah the good’ol days.
